Music
Music- We integrate Theme Studies in the classroom with original songs written specifically for our students at St. George's. Music lessons are focused on music making, reading, writing, movement, and are designed to meet the MENC National Standards for Music Education. We focus on growth in the following areas:
- Development of singing voice
- Steady beat
- Reading and writing of rhythmic and melodic solfege
- Ear training
- Improvisation
- Performance with instruments
- Analysis of song forms
Sample Music Class: The students sing a "Good Morning" song and perform some vocalizes to warm up their voices and develop their pitch matching ability. Students then echo rhythmic patterns in various time signatures and volunteer to create their own patterns for their classmates to echo. The learners then work on their reading and writing of rhythmic figures that have been previously introduced through songs. The learners finally perform their Theme Study song with instrumental accompaniment.
