Curriculum

We offer:

  • A full day kindergarten-2nd grade experience.
  • An exciting, inquiry-based academic curriculum that is intellectually challenging.  Our students will meet and exceed the New York State Common Core Standards in all academic curriculum areas.
  • A positive climate for learning that meets the needs and interests of each child.
  • An outstanding student: staff ratio with highly trained, certified teachers.
  • Support to students and families transitioning to other schools as they complete our program.
  • Three acres of secluded field, forest and prayer path behind the Church for nature/science investigations
  • Ongoing exploration in a small Green Faith garden next to the Church
  • Students participate in whole group, individual, and small group instruction throughout each day.
  • All content areas are integrated in a meaningful way throughout each Theme Study.

Our program fosters intellectual curiosity using exciting and challenging interdisciplinary, theme-based learning units that help our students:

  • Develop independent, critical, creative thinking skills.
  • Build a solid ethical foundation based on Christian values as articulated through the Episcopal tradition.
  • Develop a strong sense of global citizenship and cultural literacy.

Curriculum Approach

Our curriculum is research-based and age-appropriate.  Our students will meet and exceed NYS Standards in:

  • Language Arts:  We create a language-rich environment and develop strong literacy skills through daily exposure to high quality children’s literature, including the classics, and regular writing.

  • Math:  Our math program balances conceptual development and the development of a strong number sense using hands-on manipulatives and connections to real world applications.
  • Science:  Our science program engages students in authentic investigations as they explore their world – both inside and outside the school.  It is modeled on the exemplary Science Start program endorsed by the National Science Foundation. For an introduction on this program please watch this video.
  • Social Studies:  An emphasis on History and Geography will lead to an exploration of major world cultures and historical events as we seek to develop each child’s cultural literacy.
