We have researched best ways to integrate iPads into classroom instruction. We regularly evaluate and monitor the new Apps that emerge daily in order to determine which provide the best support for learning our classroom. We are keenly aware of the challenge to ensure that students become comfortable and skilled with technology tools while not succumbing to the pressures to be excessively “plugged in.” We use the iPads for practice in math skills such as addition and subtraction, building fluency in reading by accessing through the iPad apps. stories such as Cat in the Hat and Winnie the Pooh, and practicing letter formation. As part of their learning the writing process, students polish drafts of their stories with the iPad Word App, and email their work to the teachers for feedback before attaining “publishable” level of completion. The students can add their own illustrations to their finished texts.
